## Who decides that a seat is available?

The deciding question is who owns the seat state. A map layer asks another system what is for sale. Seating infrastructure answers that question and keeps the answer correct while thousands of people click at once.

### When the map renders inventory it does not own.

- Its stated support for "any and all inventory sources/feeds", and for combining multiple sources at the same time, is exactly what a resale marketplace, aggregator or broker site needs—and is not something SeatLayer is built for.
- Section highlighting and seller notes are aimed at a listings-driven buying decision, where the choice is between competing offers rather than between empty seats.
- Approximate seat views drawn from thousands of images for major sporting events and theaters: a curated library at a scale a per-venue product cannot match quickly.
- Maximum interface control: a licensable model offering either a pre-built UI with numerous configuration options or a completely customized one.

Not sure which side of the line you are on? A simple test: if you can oversell a seat by getting the answer wrong, you need something that owns the seat state. If your listings already come from a system of record and the job is presenting them beautifully, a licensed map layer is the cheaper and more appropriate purchase—and Seatics is a specialist at it.

## Compare the system boundary in plain language.

SeatLayer statements reflect shipped product and published pricing. Seatics facts were checked against its own public pages on 25 Aug 2026. Where those pages are silent on something, this table says exactly that rather than asserting an absence.

## Changing from a map layer changes the inventory-system boundary.

Replacing a rendering layer is a front-end task. Taking on seat state is an architectural decision, and it should be tested against a real on-sale before anything switches over.

1. **Author and publish the venue once.** Start from one of 51 released templates or draw the room in the Designer. Check geometry, categories, accessibility and commercial view metadata, then publish a reviewed version that dated events reference.
2. **Decide what inventory SeatLayer holds.** Define categories, prices, blocked seats and which sales channels see which inventory. If some inventory must stay in another system, plan that boundary explicitly—SeatLayer does not aggregate third-party listing feeds.
3. **Prove hold, payment and door.** Embed the buyer picker in the checkout you own, or publish a hosted event page on the organizer's own gateway. Test hold expiry under concurrency, idempotent booking, signed webhooks, ticket issue and door scanning.

No automatic migration claim: SeatLayer does not claim an importer for Seatics maps, configurations or inventory feeds. The venue is authored or reviewed in SeatLayer, and because a listings map carries no hold or booking model, those rules are defined here regardless of how the drawing originated.

## Choose an embedded booking flow or SeatLayer-hosted surfaces.

Both routes share venue geometry and live inventory. The difference is who presents checkout and operator workflows.

Its published seller-notes and section-highlighting features are aimed at that listings-driven buying decision, its approximate seat-view library covers major sporting events and theaters at a scale a per-venue product cannot match quickly, and its licensable model with pre-built or fully customized UI suits a team that wants maximum control of the interface. SeatLayer is the wrong tool for a marketplace aggregating third-party listings.
